Former Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil revealed the Lebanese Hezbollah’s intention to leave Syria, noting the need for this decision to be supported by the Lebanese.

Bassil’s statement came during a press conference held today, Sunday, where he said: “Hezbollah began to think about returning from Syria and securing its conditions, and we, as Lebanese, must accept and support such a decision.”

Bassil added that the initiative that his movement presented to Lebanese presidents Michel Aoun and French Emmanuel Macron included in its political aspect the issue of neutralizing Lebanon for discussion at the dialogue table, according to Russia Today.

Bassil considered that the recent visit of the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh, to Lebanon “harms Lebanon and does not serve the Palestinian cause, nor the return of our refugee brothers to their land, and as a result, increases the risks to the sovereignty and unity of Lebanon, and we will not accept that anyone believes any reality that threatens Lebanon. “

Bassil also rejected the participation of his movement in the new Lebanese government, noting that “the failure continues” in the investigation into the Beirut port explosion and in the reconstruction after the catastrophic accident.

Bassil called on the Lebanese judiciary to “hurry and be fair and not subject to populism and social contact,” warning that if this does not happen, people will have the right to demand an international investigation into what happened.

It is noteworthy that Lebanese Hezbollah did enter the Syrian conflict after the Qusayr battles in April 2013, and played a key role alongside allies of the Syrian authorities in strengthening control of government forces in large areas and driving them away. of the opposition factions.
