BEIRUT (Reuters) – Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri’s office said his party rejects the method followed by the designated prime minister to form a new government and said he will not join the cabinet on the basis of that, but that he will cooperate in whatever is necessary for the stability of his country in crisis.

Berri’s office, which leads the Shiite Amal movement allied with Hezbollah, cited criticism of Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Adib’s method of forming the government, including a lack of negotiation.

Berri’s office said in the statement that the problem is not with the French nor is it an internal problem, after a political ally of Berri said he had spoken by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron, who urged Lebanon to implement reforms. .

The statement read: “Therefore, we inform the Prime Minister-designate of (ours) and ours that we do not want to participate on these fundamentals in government, and we inform him of our willingness to cooperate to the fullest in all that is necessary for the stability and finances of Lebanon, to undertake reforms and save its economy. “
