On Saturday, several Pakistani cities witnessed protests for a second day over the investigation method of the crime of gang rape by a mother who was traveling with her two children on a highway at a time when police said they were looking for the perpetrators.

Police say the woman is in her early 30s and was driving outside the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore with her two children on Thursday night when she ran out of fuel.

The woman called the police to seek her rescue, but before she arrived, two men dragged her out of the car at gunpoint and raped her near the road.

Inam Ghani, inspector general for the Punjab province where the accident occurred, told reporters on Saturday night that police had identified the two suspects through DNA analysis.

“I hope to reach them and arrest them very soon,” he added.

But the protesters were not satisfied with this and called for the removal of Omar, the chief investigator of the Police in charge of this case, who repeatedly referred to what he saw as mistakes made by the victim, as that he should have taken another road, not traveling at night, and making sure there is enough gas in your car.

She also said that she seemed to get the impression that Pakistan is as safe as France, “the country where she resides.” There were no requests for comment from the French embassy.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Islamabad, some with the French flag and others with banners reading “Execute the rapists.”

Hundreds, mostly women, have also gathered in Lahore, Karachi and even in the city of Peshawar in northwestern Pakistan.
