Lebanese politicians said Thursday that the fire that broke out in the port of Beirut “was manufactured with the aim of altering the scene of the crime.”

This came in separate statements, a few hours after the outbreak of a fire in an oil and tire depot in the free market within the port.

Rola Al-Tabash, a member of the Future Party bloc (headed by Saad Hariri), said that “today’s fire is deliberate and what is happening (in the port) is aimed at altering the crime scene.”

In an interview with the local channel “MTV” (in private), it was asked about “a coincidence that today’s fire, like the port explosion, occurred after the flight of the Israeli aircraft and after welding (repair) work “.

He added: “What is happening against the Lebanese people is like genocide. We no longer need an international investigation, but we need international forces to protect us. Where is the judiciary?”

For his part, Deputy Shamil Roukoz, a former member of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc (President Michel Aoun’s son-in-law), said that the fire that broke out in the port “came to burn and hide the reality of black August 4.”

He added, in a series of tweets, through his Twitter account, that those fires were “the same ones that emanated from the filth of the ruling political class,” as he described it.

He asked about the investigations: “What have you achieved to date? A corrupt person is being tried by a criminal, and a criminal is covering up for a corrupt person, and the dignity, life and spirit of the Lebanese people are lost in justice. lost and despicable power. “

Early Thursday, Acting Minister of Public Works Michel Najjar announced, in a televised interview, that the port fire was the result of repair work and was under control, emphasizing that an investigation into its circumstances would be opened.

On Tuesday, the Lebanese army announced that it was able to extinguish a fire that broke out in rubbish and scraps of wood and tires in poor condition in the port of Beirut.

On August 4, the Lebanese capital spent a bloody night, as a result of a huge explosion in the port of Beirut, which left 191 dead, more than 6 thousand injured and dozens missing, in addition to massive material damage estimated at $ 15 thousand million, according to unlimited official figures.

According to preliminary official estimates, the terminal explosion occurred due to some 2,750 tonnes of “ammonium nitrate”, which has been confiscated and stored since 2014.
