Civil defense teams rushed to the port to extinguish the fire, amid concern over the resumption of the August 4 disaster, and army military helicopters were also involved in putting out the fire.
The “Traffic Control” room reported that traffic from the naval base had been diverted to the Burj Al-Ghazal intersection and the George Haddad intersection.
Traffic was cut off and it was diverted from Al-Bakrji town to Karantina onto the eastern route, and at the Al-Saifi intersection towards Burj Al-Ghazal. In addition, traffic from the naval base was diverted to the Burj Al Ghazal intersection and the George Haddad intersection.
The port director, Bassem Qaisi, confirmed to Al-Nahar that “the work is now focused on preventing the spread of fire towards the Charles Helou Bridge.”
The director general of the Red Cross, George Kittana, told Al-Nahar that “our equipment is on the ground and only respiratory distress has been recorded as a result of the fire.”
