The President of the Lebanese Republic, Michel Aoun, asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Charbel Wahba, on Wednesday, to make the necessary contacts with the United States embassy in Beirut and the Lebanese embassy in Washington, to find out the circumstances that led the US Treasury to impose sanctions on the two former ministers, Ali Hassan Khal Fenil and Youssefianos.

Several Lebanese parties and officials condemned the imposition of US sanctions on former officials, who belong to the “Marada” movement and the “Amal” movement.

Hizbullah considered that “this unfair decision is a badge of honor for the two friends and for all those whom the US administration accuses of resisting or supporting the resistance”, adding that “this US sanctions policy will not be able to achieve its objectives in the Libano”.

On Tuesday, the US Treasury Department included the two former Lebanese ministers, Ali Hassan Khalil and Youssef Fenianos, on the “terrorism list” for “their support for Hezbollah and their involvement in corruption,” as she put it. .

US Under Secretary of State for Near East Affairs David Schenker stated that “Phenianus and Khalil were involved in corruption operations that allow Hezbollah to operate in Lebanon, and the sanctions represent a message to the party and its allies from that the time has come to adopt another policy. “
