A report published on Tuesday by the “Oil Price” website revealed that China wants to build a regional center for spy operations in Iran, in accordance with the 25-year agreement it will sign with it.

The report prepared by Simon Watkins cited high-ranking sources close to the Iranian government that Beijing and Tehran will expand “the scope of espionage and electronic warfare capabilities” within a range of 5,000 km, which will be based in the port of Chabahar. , which is located in southeastern Iran.

He noted that this would make Iran, even after the end of the 25-year agreement, a “geopolitical cornerstone” that China could not do without in its vision of the Silk Road project, “one belt, one road.” .

And in November, mass surveillance systems will begin, covering the majority of Iran’s population. Some 10 million additional surveillance camera points will be installed in the seven largest cities in the country, followed by the installation of 5 million cameras in another 21 cities.

What is interesting about this, according to the author, is that the surveillance systems in Iran will be linked with the algorithms of the Chinese surveillance system, which means that the Iranian database will become part of the Chinese database.

A source told Oil Price that this matter will be a first step, which will be followed by various measures, including Internet protection systems that allow the authorities to avoid the use of foreign sites that in their opinion are prohibited, and it is also expected that special institutes are opened to teach Mandarin Chinese, or even the possibility of introducing them into the study plans as a foreign language.

In addition, military cooperation between the two countries will be strengthened in partnership with Russia, as the possibility of installing S400 air defense systems is being discussed, as well as plans to expand some airports to accommodate civil and military air traffic between Beijing and Tehran. .

So far, the draft agreement and the news that emerged from it have sparked widespread debate within Iran, with some accusing it of being more like a deal to sell Iran to China, but at the same time has the support of the supreme leader. of the country, Ali Khamenei.

The agreement regulates the cooperation extended for a period of 25 years in the field of mutual investments in the transport, ports, energy, industry and services sectors. There will also be special free zones in the country in Iranian-Chinese cooperation, while the total investment is estimated to be less than half a trillion dollars.

But according to the draft, which is coded as the “final version”, it also organizes frameworks for cooperation between the two parties in the military and security fields, and even those projects that may be related to a state or a “third party.”

The new agreement could give China the opportunity to establish military bases in Iran, which means that strategic or political changes can take place entirely in the region, according to a report published by the website “The Print.”
