But there are those who seem to be sure that none of the contracts will be long, as long as the two-week period is sufficient to fulfill the drafting task. Some are optimistic to the point of stating that the government will see the light of day early next week, stating that political forces supporting Adeeb will not hamper his efforts. High-ranking political sources indicated that the head of the Future Movement, Saad Hariri, urges Adeeb to respect the two-week deadline set by French President Emmanuel Macron to form the government, considering that this matter is essential to obtain French support and his western successor.
In addition, yesterday the decision to lift the subsidies began to be implemented. Economy Minister Raoul Nehme decided to stop subsidizing basic products related to livestock and agricultural production, on the pretext that prices did not fall, and some increased twice their previous support prices. Rather than resort to looking for ways to lower prices and monitor the good benefit of the subsidies to consumers, Nehme made it easy to resort to the option he preferred, which is to stop the subsidies. In the same context, the governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, announced that there is an effort to “rationalize” the food basket. He told the “MTV” station that they are working to have a card for each citizen to buy with a value of $ 1,515, without specifying the groups that benefit from the card. Salameh confirmed that he had asked the Energy Ministry to determine the country’s fuel and fuel needs, until there was a clear plan.
In a separate context, Salameh indicated that “no bank in Lebanon will go bankrupt, and we have made the decision that the bank that cannot meet the requirements in terms of liquidity or capital will be owned by Banque du Liban and the rights are reserved “.
