Several boats that participated in a parade on Lake Travis in the US state of Texas in support of President Donald Trump sank on Saturday.
Local officials said a large number of boats took part in the parade, generating waves that caused at least four boats to sink and another group of rocks to collide, according to Reuters.
Officials said accidents that occurred at the lake, which is a popular destination for boating, fishing, swimming and other activities, did not result in injuries.
Anguish calls
“A truly extraordinary number of ships have participated … Several ships have sunk,” said Christine Dark, public relations officer for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
Dark said police have deployed an additional number of officers in light of expectations for an increase in the number of ships, adding that they are still receiving a large number of calls for help.
The United States presidential elections are scheduled for November 3, 2020.
