The London Arabs wrote:

Lebanese political circles expressed disappointment at the lack of progress in the investigation of the causes that led to the great explosion in the port of Beirut, which caused the great destruction of the Lebanese capital.

These circles said that despite a full month having passed since the bombing, there was no clear indication of a desire to find the cause that led to the disaster, which resulted in the death of some 200 people and the displacement of 300,000 Lebanese from their homes. .

These circles blamed the Presidency of the Republic for not pushing the truth about the explosion issue, pointing out that President Michel Aoun had considered from the beginning that an international investigation was a “waste of time”.
These circles did not rule out that there would be leaks on the investigations at a certain stage, especially because there are French and Americans who participate in them, and they have learned of the place of the attack and the materials that were in it and that led to the disaster happened last August 4.

French intelligence director Bernard Emier arrived in Lebanon on Thursday to participate in pressuring Lebanese parties to form a new government and implement reforms, and that French President Emmanuel Macron may have assigned Emié to manage the Lebanese dossier.

Emié is the Director General of the Foreign Intelligence Service in France, which is known as the General Administration of Foreign Security.

Three Lebanese officials said Emié was in contact with Lebanese officials on the issues discussed during Macron’s visit.

In response to a question on whether Emié plays a role, the French presidency said: “The president is in charge of monitoring and everyone in the country does their job. The Minister of Foreign Affairs will be in contact. “

Emier, who was French ambassador to Lebanon from 2004 to 2007, was appointed intelligence director shortly after Macron took power in 2017.

“Yes, the French intelligence director is keeping track of all the files that Macron raised during his last visit, and for this purpose he is communicating with many Lebanese officials of all affiliations, following them step by step and urging them to accelerate implementation. of reforms, “said a senior Lebanese official.

Aimee was appointed ambassador to Lebanon after being an advisor to the late French President Jacques Chirac. He was in office at the time of the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, a close friend of Chirac.
Diplomats say he played an important role in efforts to pull Syrian forces out of Lebanon after they entered during the civil war and did not leave afterward.
