Washington does not see a solution to the Lebanese crisis before its elections

The US Undersecretary of State, David Schenker, began a visit to Lebanon that began with meetings with representatives of civil society, independent activists and resigning deputies, and excluded officials and representatives of the forces participating in the government.

Sources who met with Schenker told Asharq Al-Awsat that he stated that the United States does not care about the person and the head of government, but about the program, and is waiting for the names of the new ministers and the government work program. He stressed that “there will be no financial support and aid to Lebanon without reforms.”

Schenker was asked about the demarcation of the maritime border with Israel, and he implicitly confirmed Israel’s rejection of the Lebanese proposal, saying that the negotiating framework had received changes (referring to Lebanese conditions), and that these changes still they had not obtained Israeli approval. The commander of the Armed Forces, General Joseph Aoun, received Schenker yesterday and the discussion took place. In forms of cooperation between the armies of the two countries.

On the other hand, political circles in Washington reported that any solution to the Lebanese crisis will not come before the US presidential elections.
