Today, Thursday, a Lebanese official warned of the presence of containers with explosive materials in the port of Beirut.
The Lebanese newspaper “Al-Jumhuriya” quoted Beirut Director General for Port Management and Investments, Basem Al-Qaisi, as saying, during a press conference today, that “there are containers containing explosive materials in the port. We lift books to interested parties and asked customs to take them away. “
Al-Qaisi asked Customs to “implement the law and force shipping companies to resend the containers,” indicating that it will file a lawsuit against an unknown person next Monday in the matter of containers containing explosive materials at the port.
Al-Qaisi pointed to the problem that merchants cannot store wheat and food products, saying: “So we adopted the direct delivery method from ship to truck, then to mill or storage location outside of Beirut.”
This occurs while the causes of the massive explosion that affected the port of Beirut on August 4 are still being investigated, causing massive damage in and around the port and in the streets of the capital, leaving around 182 dead and 6000 injured.
Lebanese security officials had warned former Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab and Lebanese President Michel Aoun in July that the presence of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate in the Beirut port warehouse constituted an imminent security risk that would destroy the capital did explode, which actually happened after about two weeks.
