Pope Francis, head of the Catholic Church, appeared yesterday in the first weekly public meeting since the restrictions imposed by the general isolation by the Corona virus six months ago, exchanging smiles and conversations with some of the attendees.

The meeting took place in the Plaza San Dámaso of the Papal Palace of the Vatican. The Pope kissed the Lebanese flag presented to him by the Lebanese priest George Braidi and bowed his head in a silent prayer for peace and dialogue in Lebanon.

He called for a “world day of prayer and fasting for Lebanon” tomorrow Friday, which marks the passage of a month since the attack on the port of Beirut, and that his Foreign Minister, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the second man in the settlement of the Vatican address, be sent to Beirut on the same day as his deputy.

He asked for the participation of people of other religions. The Pope said: “He cannot leave Lebanon alone,” and called on politicians, religious leaders and the international community to commit “with sincerity and transparency” to rebuilding Lebanon, and called on states to help “without interfering with regional tensions “.

The pope’s weekly meeting was held in a square inside the Vatican Palace, where attendees wore masks and sat in separate seats, with spaces between them, to keep their distance.

“My dear brothers and sisters, good morning!” He said with a smile. After several months, we resumed our face-to-face meetings: not on screens, but face-to-face. that is sweet”.
