The head of the political office of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniyeh, continues his meetings with senior officials and political leaders in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, where he arrived earlier.
On Wednesday, Haniyeh met with the speaker of the Lebanese parliament, Nabih Berri, and they discussed political developments on the Palestinian issue and the agreements concluded between some Arab countries and Israel.
In a press conference held after the meeting, Haniyeh confirmed his categorical rejection of the resettlement of Palestinian refugees from their lands.
“We reject the settlements and the Palestinian camps in Lebanon will continue to be a symbol of stability, security and understanding. They cannot interfere in Lebanese affairs, but rather bridges that span all Lebanese,” he said. He added: “Our people living in Lebanon are a guest and reject any form of settlement.”
Haniyeh said that at the meeting, a common Lebanese and Palestinian position was expressed, rejecting all what he called projects aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause.
Haniyeh reiterated Hamas’s position of rejecting UAE normalization with Israel, saying: “A sad, painful and painful moment for all Palestinians and all free Arab peoples when we saw a Zionist plane in the Emirates. Israel is a enemy, and that should be clear to everyone. “
On Monday, the first Israeli plane landed publicly at Abu Dhabi airport, some 3 weeks after the establishment of official relations between the two countries, with a joint US-Israeli delegation, which held meetings with prominent Emirati officials.
Haniyeh will participate in the meeting of the general secretaries of the Palestinian factions, scheduled for tomorrow Thursday, simultaneously in Ramallah and Beirut, with the participation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, to discuss ways to confront the Israeli annexation plan.
Visiting hours
A source from the Hamas movement said that the agenda for Haniyeh’s visit includes holding high-level meetings with Lebanese officials and leaders.
The source added that Haniyeh will hold separate meetings with President Michel Aoun, Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Adib, Future Movement President Saad al-Din Hariri, and Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.
Also on the Hamas leader’s agenda is a meeting with the Chairman of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, the Director General of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, and the Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Abd al-Latif Derian, and the visit of the Secretary General of the Islamic Group Azzam al-Ayoubi.
The source added that Haniyeh would meet with leaders of the Palestinian factions in Lebanon and visit the camps.
There are 174,422 Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon in 12 camps and 156 localities, according to the latest statistics from the Lebanese Central Administration for the year 2017.
