French President Emmanuel Macron warned on Friday of a civil war in Lebanon, if left in the hands of corrupt regional powers, without naming them.
In a statement to the press, Macron emphasized the need to implement reforms in Lebanon, otherwise its economy could collapse.
And on Wednesday, the Elysee Palace announced that Macron will visit the Lebanese capital, Beirut, in early September.
According to sources from the Elysee, the purpose of the visit is to put pressure on Lebanese officials to create the right conditions for the formation of a government that implements reforms, following the resignation of Prime Minister Hassan Diab.
On August 6, Macron visited Lebanese political leaders at the Al-Sanawbar Palace and toured the port of Beirut after the bombing that shook it, promising at the time to provide assistance to the Lebanese and calling for the construction of a new political system in the country.
A week after Macron’s visit, the French Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, visited Lebanon together with the reception of the French aircraft carrier Tonner.
On August 4, the Lebanese capital spent a bloody night, as a result of a huge explosion in the port of Beirut, which left 182 dead, more than 6,000 injured and hundreds missing, according to unlimited official figures.
On the tenth of the same month, Diab presented the resignation of his government, after angry demonstrations in the country, demanding responsibility from those responsible for the port explosion.
