In the city of Arsal, the municipality began spraying swarms and groups of insects and cockroaches with pesticides within the city and in the places where camps for displaced people gathered, just as the municipality of Baalbek launched a campaign to combat these insects. from the early hours of the morning to avoid its reproduction.

Baalbek Mayor Fouad Al-Blog said that “the Bekaa region has witnessed in recent years a phenomenon of proliferation of swarms of beetles emerging from the ground in the transition period between the spring and summer seasons” , stressing that “there is no reason to panic.”

For his part, the director of the Agricultural Development and Extension Centers in Bekaa, Eng. Khaled Yaghi, confirmed that this “insect is the same one that appeared last year, of the type of Calosoma olivieri beetles that live underground in the winter and come out in the summer, and spread in residential areas, “noting that” These beetles live in the dark, are non-toxic, and are considered useful for agriculture, as they feed on scorpions, lobsters, and beds, and their appearance significantly leads to maintaining the balance of nature.

“The beetles will finish as soon as it gets hotter,” Yagi predicted.
