Nasser Al-Kidwa announced to AFP on Thursday that he had submitted to the Palestinian Central Election Committee a list endorsed by the leader of the Fatah movement imprisoned in Israel, Marwan Barghouti, for the legislative vote that is supposed to take place on May 22 and will be be the first in 15 years.

Al-Kidwa, head of the “Freedom” list, said that Fadwa Al-Barghouti, Marwan Barghouti’s wife, ranks second on this list. He added that “the presence of his wife Fadwa in second place” is evidence that Marwan Barghouti supports the list.

On March 8, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas decided to remove Al-Kidwa, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, in the context of his decision to form an independent list of the movement to participate in the upcoming legislative elections.

Al-Kidwa said he had long discussions with “associates and sympathizers of the prisoner” Barghouti, who was detained for nearly two decades, resulting in common positions on “almost everything,” including the program and the candidates.

The Central Elections Committee announced on Wednesday night the closure of the candidacy for the Palestinian Legislative Council elections.

He said 36 lists have been nominated for the candidacy, including three competing for supporters of Fatah, the largest Palestinian faction, since registration began on March 20, explaining that he has accepted 13 applications from them and continues to study the rest. of requests.

The Electoral Commission indicated that it would announce a preliminary list of the names of the lists and candidates on April 6 to be available for consultation and present objections to the commission, if any.

In mid-January, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree setting the date for the legislative elections on May 22 and the presidential elections on July 31.

In addition to the “freedom” list, the reform movement in Fatah headed by the expelled leader of the movement presented the “future” list to the electoral committee on Wednesday.

Dahlan served as head of the Palestinian Authority’s Preventive Security Agency in Gaza before Hamas took control of the strip in 2007 after winning the 2006 elections.

Hamas also registered a list under the name “Jerusalem is our date”, which includes several prisoners of the movement in Israeli jails.

The elections are held this time according to a list system, that is, according to the full proportional representation to elect 132 members in the Council, which is the Palestinian parliament within the Palestinian territories.
