Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said that a decision will be made on the possibility of working with the Iranian nuclear deal again in the next two months.
“Regarding Iran, I think the situation is not yet clear, we (the countries participating in the JCPOA) are now going through a transition phase, and within 1.5 to the next two months, it will be decided whether to possible to start, “the Russian diplomat added in a televised interview. By reviving the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan, known as the nuclear agreement, or this agreement will remain in a semi-disjointed state until the end of the year. “
Ulyanov added that the upcoming Iranian presidential elections on June 18 make it difficult to negotiate the deal, as well as the decision of the parliament to reduce the scope of the inspection activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Iran.
“There are currently no direct negotiations on this issue, but diplomatic contacts continue,” Ulyanov said.
Ulyanov stressed that Washington in particular should take the necessary steps for Iran to fulfill its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, because Washington abandoned the agreement and caused tremendous economic damage to Iran.
And he believed that the first steps in this area should be the abolition of the sanctions imposed on Tehran, expressing his suspicion that the administration of President Joe Biden is ready to implement these steps.
