Jumblatt, who visited the presidential palace at the invitation of Aoun, said: “Do not expect anything from any country except the French initiative, and we cannot ask for more attention if we are in this situation.”
Jumblatt said the country “has come to a complete standstill amid economic collapse and hunger knocking on people’s doors.” And he added: “Let’s leave the big things and go back to the internal situation and address the Crown, the economic situation, the control of the dollar and the borders.”
After the meeting, Jumblatt was asked about the foundations on which the settlement is based, which the new government formation is expected to release at the end of the day, and if the number of government members was increasing, he replied: ” I said the settlement. And if he advised a meeting between President-designate Saad Hariri and the leader of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, he replied: “This was the advice of the French envoy, Patrick Dorrell, when we saw him months ago.”
Asked if the issue required a national dialogue, he replied, “What are we talking about? Miraculously, the dollar goes to 15,000 and then back to 10,000. There is something strange. Let’s have these things.”
