After the events of Natanz … Washington to Tehran: patience has its limits

Tehran continues to test the limits it can reach and improve conditions before the date of decision, negotiation and haggling, if it occurs.

Perhaps enriching uranium with new centrifuges at the Natanz nuclear facility, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported Monday, also comes into this context. However, the US administration emphasized, commenting on the agency’s report, that patience has its limits.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price confirmed during a press conference last night, commenting on developments at the Natanz facility, that the US administration’s patience has limits, repeating previous warnings.

Building proposal
In addition, the State Department indicated that it was awaiting a constructive proposal from Iran regarding its nuclear program, in response to President Joe Biden’s announcement of its readiness for negotiations.

“We put forward a proposal to work fairly in the framework of the 5 + 1 negotiations, but we have seen conflicting public comments from the Iranians and we are waiting for a constructive proposal,” Price said.

Another rape in Natanz … Underground
This comes after the International Atomic Energy Agency announced in a report yesterday that Iran had begun enriching uranium in advanced IR-2M centrifuges at the Natanz underground facility.

It also stated in a report obtained by Reuters that it “confirmed on March 7, 2021 that Iran had started pumping natural uranium hexafluoride in the third series, which includes 174 IR-2M centrifuges.”

However, he noted that the Iranian authorities have installed the fourth set of the new generation of centrifuges (containing 174 devices) underground, but have not yet started uranium enrichment, as the devices have not been fed with the material.

Furthermore, the agency confirmed that Iran is now working on the installation of the fifth group of IR-2M centrifuges in Natanz, while the installation of the sixth series has not yet started.

This constitutes another violation of the nuclear agreement that Iran concluded with the major powers in 2015, at a time when European efforts are concerted to reactivate this agreement and to re-engage the United States in it.
