The Special Tribunal for Lebanon to try the murderers of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri confirmed that the verdict delivered by the Trial Chamber of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon on August 18, 2020, condemning a member of Hezbollah, Salim Ayyash , is “an important step towards achieving justice for Lebanon.”
The situation occurred on the 16th anniversary of the assassination of Prime Minister Hariri, when a large number of Lebanese politicians and personalities expressed their positions on this occasion. “Today marks the anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and 21 others,” the court said on Twitter. The ruling issued by the Trial Chamber of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon on August 18, 2020 is an important step towards achieving justice in Lebanon.
The head of the Lebanese Forces party, Samir Geagea, said: “The truth has not stopped the murderers, justice stops them!”
In an interview with Al-Mustaqbal TV, former Prime Minister Najib Mikati indicated that Hariri used to say: “No one is bigger than his country.” And Mikati added: “If everyone had acted on this issue, we would not have reached a Stage where he said I entrust you to Lebanon. Danger emanates from each side feeling that it is the strongest party that wants to control Lebanon.
Lebanese Party chief Kataeb, resigned MP Sami Gemayel, said: “The murderer is known, but justice has not been served because Lebanon has been kidnapped. The series of violence and murders continues as long as the militias control the country and we have not recovered the sovereignty of our state and the rule of law ”.
Likewise, the resigned MP, Marwan Hamadeh, pointed out that “on the day that Prime Minister Hariri was assassinated, we cried Abu Baha, and today, after 16 years, all of Lebanon cried.
In Western situations, British Ambassador Martin Longden tweeted, saying: “Today we remember the murder of Rafik Hariri, and all those who were killed and wounded on that terrible day, 16 years ago.” He added: “The passage of time does not hide our demand for justice and responsibility for the victims, nor our pain for this great loss for Lebanon.”
