Beirut – “Al-Quds Al-Arabi”: The mystery still surrounds the course of the investigations into the case of the millions of dollars transferred by the governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, to Switzerland, amid the mass of news circulating on this subject, the most recent of which is the freezing of an amount of $ 400 million.
This case is accompanied by a political and media campaign on Riad Salameh. The daily Al-Akhbar reported that Salameh had been removed from the international front page and that “the investigation in Switzerland was carried out by French planning, but has American coverage, and that the American ambassador, Dorothy Shea, has not been hiding for more than a year. month his harsh criticism of the governor ”. But she said: “The ambassador’s words in her councils do not mean that US coverage has been completely removed from Salameh, as French officials still caution against being too optimistic about the end of the looming ruler.”
It is noteworthy in this context that the accusations made against the representative, Major General Jamil Al-Sayed, of fabricating the file and leaking the subject of the Swiss correspondence to the Minister of Justice Marie-Claude Negm, came close to reality with the advancement of the teacher “in her personal capacity as a Lebanese citizen and in her representative capacity as a representative of the Lebanese people, at the official request of the Attorney General of Justice, Discriminatory Judge Ghassan Oweidat, through the Ministry of Justice, for inclusion as a witness Voluntary before the Swiss judiciary exclusively, to provide information that you have or that you may ask in the investigation carried out by the Swiss authorities on transfers of funds from the Governor of the Banque du Liban and others, especially on laws, circulars and facts related to work The Banque du Liban and the circulars issued by it, including the ruler’s public statements and n which he used to repeatedly invite and reassure Lebanese to deposit their dollars in Lebanon at the time he withdrew their money from it, in what is seen as an abuse of public office and in violation of corruption and enrichment laws illicit.
According to the statement from the captain’s media office, “Judge Oweidat was asked to include a copy of his request as an official document in the correspondence that Oweidat would subsequently transmit to the Swiss authorities in response to the request for legal assistance that he received. two weeks ago to investigate this matter. “

At the same time, the Swiss ambassador to Lebanon, Monica Schmutz Kirghotskd, who had sought with the governor of the Banque du Liban to change the name of the Lebanese Swiss Bank and did not succeed, according to some, visited Foreign Minister Charbel Wahba after the criticism leveled against her for bypassing diplomatic resources and sending the Swiss Attorney General’s request to a Minister of Justice directly without going through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
After the meeting, the ambassador refused to comment on the matter, explaining that “the matter belongs to the Swiss Minister of Justice and the Swiss Prosecutor, who addressed the request for legal assistance.”
As for the chancellor, he said about the Swiss correspondence, “I know that this issue is very important for public opinion, and I believe that absolute secrecy must be maintained until the judiciary speaks its word. I hope that the media will cover the news as is without interpretation, addition or alteration. He added: “Before the Lebanese judiciary, the Swiss judiciary submitted a request and I did not see the content of the file that was deposited by the Swiss ambassador with the Ministry of Justice before her visit to me today. I hope that the Lebanese judiciary has complete freedom to make and take the appropriate decision in this regard.
It is striking that in the last two days contacts were made to ensure media appearances by the Swiss socialist deputy, Fabien Molina, who pointed out that “the funds that arrived from Lebanon to Switzerland after 2016 exceeded two billion dollars, but there is no confirmation that all these funds come from legitimate sources ”. To “that the judicial process has begun and will not stop, and that freezing the accounts of the Governor of the Banque du Liban is theoretically possible because the Swiss authorities are obliged to do everything necessary to ensure that funds will not be smuggled during the investigation period “.
On the other hand, the governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, issued the following statement: “The governor of the Banque du Liban affirms that all the news and numbers that circulate in some media and on social networks are highly inflated and not they have a connection with reality, and systematically aim to hit the image of the Central Bank and its ruler. And by refraining from publicly delving into the figures and facts to refute all the lies in a file that has been left in the custody of the Lebanese and Swiss judiciary, he confirms that the logic of “I lie … I lie … something must remain stuck in people’s minds ”cannot be successful in this case and in all financial records because all the facts are documented.
For his part, the president of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, was asked about his opinion on the responsibility of Riad Salameh. Regarding stolen and donated funds, who is the judicial authority that determines if that money is stolen or not?
