Tehran comments on the arrest of an Iranian tanker in Indonesia: The problem is technical!

A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Saeed Khatibzadeh, confirmed: “So far we have received conflicting information about the detention of the Iranian tanker in Indonesia,” noting that “we are awaiting further reports from the Indonesian government.”

The Iranian Students Agency (ISNA) quoted Saeed Khatibzadeh as saying in his press conference Monday: “Of course the problem is technical, and in the maritime sector, those things have happened before.”

Khatib Zadeh indicated that “the Port Organization and the company that owns the ship are following up on the matter, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Iranian Embassy in Indonesia are following up on this matter.”

The Indonesian Coast Guard is reported to have announced the arrest of two tankers, one under the Iranian flag and the other under the Panamanian flag.

The Iranian news agency Mehr quoted the Indonesian newspaper, The Jakarta Post, that the Indonesian Coast Guard had announced the arrest of an Iranian tanker named “MT Horse” and a Panamanian tanker named “MT Frea.”

According to the official account of the Indonesian Coast Guard on the social network “Twitter”, the two tankers were arrested after violating the law on maritime and traffic rights.
