The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the new US administration, led by President Joe Biden, will take a more balanced approach to relations with Russia and stop the escalation of the confrontation between the two sides.
“We hope that the new team that arrived at the White House will follow a more balanced approach without further escalating the excessive confrontation, for which we are not responsible, in Russian-American relations,” said the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, at a press conference on Thursday. Zakharova also emphasized that Russia expects from “American colleagues” a response to proposals at the negotiating table or initiatives recently made by Moscow.
The official explained: “These proposals include the establishment of an advisory working council at the expert level, the approval of a joint declaration on the prevention of any nuclear war and the need to improve strategic stability, and the two sides exchange messages that They include assuming obligations and not to interfere in the internal affairs of others, and the launching of bilateral expert-level talks on the Libyan crisis, and a meeting of the Quartet of international mediators on a Mideast deal at ministerial level.
Democrat Biden took office as the 46th president of the United States on January 20, replacing his Republican predecessor, Donald Trump, who during his tenure continued to worsen relations between Russia and the United States in many ways. And the Kremlin had previously considered that relations between Russia and the United States were in their worst condition in 3 decades.
