The British newspaper “The Independent” reported that many of those who attended Joe Biden’s inauguration as president of the United States, wearing purple, wanted to deliver a message calling for “unification.”
Vice President Kamala Harris, former First Lady Michelle Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Senator Elizabeth Warren wore purple.
Harris chose to wear a matching purple dress and coat, designed by African Americans Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson.
As for Obama, she wore a berry-colored dress and a gold-belted coat, while Clinton chose a purple suit and scarf.

Warren also wore a purple color with a light purple band and a dark purple muzzle.
Violet is often chosen to represent the association between the Republican and Democratic parties because it is a mixture of the blue that represents the Democratic Party and the red that represents the Republican Party.

As for Harris, the color also has another meaning, as he often wore purple during his campaign to honor Shirley Chisholm, who inspired his career by running for president.
Violet has historical ties to the suffrage movement, as Vanity Fair previously indicated that this color, along with white and green, constitutes the voting flag.
