US authorities discovered that a man was detained at the Chicago International Airport for three months for fear of the outbreak of the Corona epidemic.
Aditya Singh, 36, was arrested Saturday after airport employees asked for his identification documents, pointing to a plaque that turned out to belong to an airport employee who had reported him missing.
Police said Singh had arrived on a flight from Los Angeles on October 19.
A tag was found belonging to an airport employee who was afraid to go home because of Corona, according to Assistant State Attorney Kathleen Higgerty.
Singh was able to count on food donations from travelers, Hegarty told the judge, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Judge Susanna Ortiz was surprised by the details of the case.
“From what I understand, a man without a permit, a private individual and not an employee, was able to stay at O’Hare airport from October 19 to January 16, without anyone discovering his presence,” he asked.
Singh lived in a suburb of Los Angeles and had no criminal record, and it was unclear why he was in Chicago.
He was accused of being in an unauthorized place to be there and of theft, and a $ 1,000 fine was imposed.
“The court considers the facts and circumstances associated with the case extremely shocking,” Judge Ortiz said.
“Starting from the need to make airports safe so that travelers feel safe, I see the behavior of the accused as a danger to society,” he added.
“While this incident remains under investigation, we have been able to confirm that this man posed no danger to airport security or the safety of travelers,” the Chicago Department of Aviation, which oversees the city’s airports, said in a statement. .
