The United States Metropolitan Police announced Thursday that four people were killed during the assault on the Capitol by Trump supporters.
Washington Police Chief Robert Conte said among the dead was a woman who was shot by police, while three others died from “medical emergencies.”
Police said Trump supporters dumped “irritating chemicals” during the assault on the “Capitol,” which lasted hours before the military could expel the protesters.
A woman was shot and injured early Wednesday when protesters attempted to break through one of the Capitol’s fortified gates, and was taken to hospital before dying from her injuries.
Metropolitan Police officials also said that two tube bombs were found, one outside the Democratic National Committee and the other outside the Republican National Committee.
Inside the Capitol, police found a car cooler (a small refrigerator) that contained a pistol and a Molotov cocktail (an improvised incendiary device).
On Wednesday, hundreds of protesters supporting President Trump managed to storm the Capitol building in downtown Washington, DC, where a joint session of Congress will be held to approve the results of the presidential election.
Police were forced to use tear gas to disperse Trump supporters from the vicinity of the Congress building.
There were reports of shooting and around 13 people were arrested during the riots.
