New York air traffic controllers heard a “terrifying threat” on an audiotape obtained by (CBS News“On Wednesday we will fly a plane to the Congress building (of the Capitol) … we will avenge Soleimani,” he says.
The network confirmed that the audio recording, which was taken at various New York airports, says that we will fly by plane to the Capitol building today for Wednesday, and the revenge will be against Soleimani.
The American chain said that the audio was taken last Monday, on the pulses used by the pilots.
The audio was taken by pilots in New York, brandishing an attack on Congress on Wednesday, in revenge for the assassination of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a drone strike in Baghdad.
He cited the FBI as saying that the party behind the audio recording is unknown, and that it is not based on serious threats, and was broadcast after communication systems were breached at several control towers at New York airports.
Fox News quoted a US Homeland Security official as saying that the threat against Congress may be a hoax, but we are taking it seriously.
The threat targets Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed last year in a US drone attack ordered by outgoing President Donald Trump.
On the first anniversary of Soleimani’s assassination, which falls on January 3, Iranian officials organized demonstrations in which they vowed to avenge his death.
Sources told CBS News that the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) and other agencies showed the audio on Tuesday.
He explained that the threat was intended to suggest that the Capitol will be hit on the same day that Congress is scheduled to ratify the results of the Electoral College.
Sources told CBS News that a letter was sent to air traffic controllers on Tuesday to remind them to immediately report any threats or flight derailments.
The FBI did not comment, but said it takes “all threats of violence to public safety very seriously,” while the Federal Aviation Administration said it was in contact with law enforcement.
