Johnson warned that the situation is dangerous and that the restrictions imposed may become tougher, hinting at the same time that the situation could return to normal in early spring.
“Maybe we need to take more drastic measures in the coming weeks, and I totally agree with that, and I think the whole country will agree with that as well,” he said.
At the same time, the Prime Minister expressed his belief in the safety of schools, noting that the epidemic risk faced by students is at the lowest level.
Johnson defended his government’s handling of the coronavirus, noting that the UK’s vaccination campaign against the epidemic is doing “better than the rest of Europe in general.”
So far, the UK has recorded nearly two million and 600,000 corona cases, including 74,570 deaths.
