The French presidency said in a statement early Sunday that two French soldiers were killed in Mali.
“The President of the Republic learned with great sadness of the death of two soldiers of the Second Cavalry Regiment in the city of Hagenau in Mali,” the presidency said in the statement.
The presidency added that the attack was carried out with an explosive device that struck his armored vehicle during an intelligence mission in the Menaka region.
It indicated that a third soldier was injured in the attack, noting that his condition was not serious.
He stated in the statement that Macron salutes the soldiers who died for France while doing their duty.
He explained that he shares his families, loved ones and brothers in arms, and assures them of the gratitude and solidarity of the nation with them, highlighting that the president renews France’s determination to fight terrorism.
Three French soldiers were also killed less than a week ago in Mali, in a bomb explosion.
