An officer of the Northern Front Command of the Israeli army warned of the possibility of the Lebanese “Hezbollah” carrying out an attack in “the near future”, according to the newspaper “Israel Hayom”.

The officer stressed that the Israeli army would respond with unprecedented severity to such an incident, apart from not firing at a “Hezbollah” cell that crossed the border last July.

Regarding the reason for not eliminating the “Hezbollah” cell that crossed the border, he said: “The decision is complicated, and it was taken from the conviction that if we eliminate the cell, the matter will lead to a massive escalation. This is not the time. But it is important to understand: this is the first time since the withdrawal from Lebanon is preparing to absorb and eliminate a cell. “

He added: “The northern border is approaching an escalation incident, even days of combat … I am convinced that there will be an accident in the area that will be more powerful than the” Har Dov “(Shebaa Farms) accident, which may cause It produces significant casualties, and this requires us to be prepared. The probability of events is increasing. “

The Northern Command in the Israeli army believes that the escalation began in September 2019, when Hezbollah fighters attacked an Israeli military post and patrol, before an Israeli incursion into Syria last July resulted in the death of a member of Hezbollah and promised to respond by killing Israeli soldiers.

The Israeli army claimed that “Hezbollah” tried to take revenge twice, the first in July and the second in August, and the Israeli official said: “This incident is not over. We are fully prepared from then until now.”
