Stanley Johnson, the father of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, confirmed that he asked France to grant him citizenship, after his son managed to implement his plans to remove the United Kingdom from the European Union.
Stanley Johnson (80 years old), a former MP in the European Parliament who voted for Britain to remain in the Union in the 2016 “Brexit” referendum, said in an interview with RTL radio that he is seeking French citizenship due to to the “strong family ties” with this country.
In the French interview, he said that he considered himself French, recalling that his mother and both parents were French.
He continued: “As for me, there is talk of recovering what was originally attached to me, and this makes me very happy.”
The father of the British prime minister stressed that he will always be European, adding: “No one should tell the British: you are not European. Having a connection with the European Union is important.”
This comes despite the approach of Boris Johnson, who has led the campaign for Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union since 2016.
At the end of January, Britain officially left the bloc, and London and Brussels earlier this month, after long and difficult negotiations, reached a free trade agreement that would allow the United Kingdom to complete the “Brexit” process and gain independence. Brussels total.
On Wednesday, the British prime minister softened his tone towards the European Union, saying that completing “Brexit” did not spell the end of Britain as a European country.
