Beirut – The head of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, confirmed on Tuesday that the solution in Lebanon begins with early parliamentary elections.
The National News Agency quoted Geagea as saying, after receiving at the party headquarters, the United States Ambassador, Dorothy Shea, accompanied by the head of the embassy’s economic and political department, Janet Kohli, saying: “There is no hopes for the current ruling parliamentary majority. “
He noted that “the local investigation into the Beirut port explosion faces many difficulties due to the political interference that is taking place,” noting that “the solution is an international investigative committee.”
Since the Beirut port bombing last August, Geagea has called for early parliamentary elections in light of his accusation that the current composition is irresponsible and incapable of achieving any of the necessary reforms.
His call for new elections did not resonate with the local allies, who opted to form a new government that did not see the light until now, given the conflict of quotas between the different forces.
The explosion in Beirut exacerbated the suffering of Lebanon, which is witnessing the worst political and economic crisis in decades, a result of government waste and corruption, in light of scarce capital flows, the outbreak of protests across the country, the collapse of the currency, the paralysis of the banks, the continuous increase in prices and the layoffs of workers.
Saad Hariri was assigned on October 22 to form a new government to succeed Hassan Diab’s government, who submitted the resignation of his government on August 10, in the context of the explosion that occurred on August 4.
So far, the formation of a new government that Hariri wants from the specialists has stalled, while the Free Patriotic Movement and its ally Hezbollah insist on a techno-political government that will have the upper hand in its formation.
It is noteworthy that the formation of the government is carried out by consensus between the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic, according to the Lebanese constitution.
