In a statement released on Monday, Hezbollah’s Public Relations Office said it “condemns the burning of tents for displaced Syrians in the city of Hanin, Miniyeh, and considers what happened a crime against innocent Syrian citizens.”
Hezbollah called on the competent authorities to “prosecute the perpetrators and impose harsh punishments on them, to avoid the repetition of these painful incidents.”
The statement emphasized “the need to preserve the spirit of cooperation and brotherhood existing between the Lebanese people and the Syrian brothers.”
And the Lebanese “National News Agency” previously reported last Saturday that the Hunayn camp was set on fire by a group of youths following a dispute between a local Lebanese resident and several Syrian workers, which escalated into a brawl, resulting in in the fall of 3 injured.
Relief officials said, according to Reuters, that around 1,000 Syrian refugees fled the camp after the fire, while the Lebanese Army Command announced on Sunday the arrest of two Lebanese and 6 Syrians in connection with the incident.
The Syrian government expressed its deep regret over the arson that broke out in the Syrian refugee camp, and called on Lebanon to “take responsibility” for the incident.
