The editor-in-chief of the Turkish daily “Yeni Safak”, Ibrahim Karagol, announced his resignation from his position abruptly, in his tweet on “Twitter”, at an event whose details or reasons have not yet been clear.
Kargul, who has been editor of the newspaper “Yeni Safak” for almost 8 years, is considered one of the most prominent media arms of the ruling “Justice and Development” party in Turkey, and its president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Gargul tweeted on his Twitter account, saying: “My dear friends; Starting December 31, I will hand over my duties as editor-in-chief of Yeni Safak. “
He continued: “My 25-year career and managing editor at Yeni Safak, which lasted 8 years, is coming to an end. We have done very fruitful work together for many years, and together we are fighting Turkey’s biggest crisis. “
Gargul’s resignation occurred suddenly, and the reasons that led him to present it are still unclear, in the middle of an interview broadcast by Turkish journalists on social media that the resignation is part of the changes made by the ruling party in its foreign policy.
Gargul was known for his offensive tone against the anti-Turkish axis, especially Saudi Arabia, Emirates and Egypt, as well as Iran, which he attacked in various articles he had in Yeni Safak.
“Yeni Shafak” is owned by the “Albayrak Holding” group, which identifies itself as “one of the bastions of the resistance on the night of the attempted coup on July 15.”
