The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Syrian territories, which are under the control of many forces, witnessed more than 512 kidnappings during 2020.
Areas under regime control led the majority of kidnapping cases among all regions of Syria, with 61 children and 53 women abducted.
Many of those kidnapped, their fate is unknown, while 43 of them were killed.
Despite the different forces controlling the regions of Syria, all these areas suffer from “security chaos”, where gangs of kidnappers, militias and armed groups are widespread.
Syrian regime areas witnessed some 200 kidnappings during 2020, including 35 children and 11 women, of which 9 people died, including a girl and two women.
About a quarter of those abducted in regime-controlled areas were from Daraa, with 41 cases, Damascus 39 cases, Aleppo 31 cases, and the Sahel provinces 28 cases.
Turkish influence areas and pro-Ankara factions witnessed 183 kidnappings, including 20 children and 28 women, and 11 people were killed.
Regarding the areas of influence of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), 92 people were kidnapped, including 4 children and 5 women.
The information available to the Observatory indicates that the areas of the Al-Sham Liberation Headquarters and similar armed factions witnessed 39 cases of kidnapping, including two children and nine women.
