Yesterday, the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that a new mutated strain of the Corona virus had appeared in Nigeria.
“The Nigerian strain is separate from the British and South African dynasties,” John Nkengasung, director of the African Centers, told a news conference from Addis Ababa, noting the urgent need for more research.
Nkengasung explained that the “Nigerian Center for Disease Control” and the “African Center of Excellence in Genomics of Infectious Diseases” in Nigeria will study more samples of the discovered strain.
Britain and South Africa had recently detected two new strains of the virus that appeared to be spreading faster, prompting further restrictions on travel with the two countries, as well as causing turmoil in financial markets.
Nkengasung suggested that the rapidly spreading strains from Britain and South Africa, the cause of most of the cases in the second wave of the virus outbreak in the two countries.
In addition, the French Presidency announced yesterday in a statement that President Emmanuel Macron, who tested positive for “Covid-19” on the 17th of this month, “no longer suffers from symptoms of the disease”, and can thus end the isolation that began seven days ago.
The Elysee Palace said Macron suffered from a cough, high body temperature and muscle aches, explaining that “during the period of illness he was able to continue his activities in the main archives, preside over councils and hold scheduled meetings.”
