The Kurdish website “Passnews” on Monday quoted a Syrian Kurdish source as saying that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have not reached any final agreement with the Russians and the Syrian regime regarding the fate of Ain Issa, amidst the Moscow’s insistence on handing over the city to the regime.
The source pointed out that the “SDF” stalled in talks with the Russians and the regime until the US president-elect, Joe Biden, assumed his new functions, since he was betting on the US position to prevent any possible Turkish attack on the region.
Ain Issa military sources pointed out that large military reinforcements from the Turkish forces and the National Army arrived on the outskirts of Ain Issa, at a time when all the equipment in the area is being completed, with the aim of launching a military action to liberate the city from the hands of the Kurdish militias.
Sources noted that in recent days “feel the pulse” clashes between the two parties were witnessed, in which Qasd elements hid inside the tunnels and potholes they prepared during the last months around the city, at one point in which negotiations between the SDF and Russia have failed with the SDF refusing to leave the city.
In context, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights cited sources saying that 10 Russian armored vehicles, including Russian officers and personnel, left Ain Issa and headed to the Shirkak silos in the Raqqa countryside, where they met with Turkish officers. in silos, to discuss the recent Turkish escalation.
There is a cautious calm in and around Ain Issa, interrupted by sporadic clashes from time to time. The observatory said that 4 members of the pro-Turkish factions were killed and others injured, during the clashes, following an SDF ambush outside the village of Jahbel in the Ain Issa camp.
The Jahbal and Musharrafa axes, east of Ain Issa, witnessed intermittent clashes with medium and heavy machine guns, between the Turkish-backed factions on the one hand, and the Syrian Democratic Forces on the other hand, coinciding with the Turkish artillery barrage against the axes of Ain Issa.
In addition, the SDF arrested 23 members of its special forces for refusing to fight in the city of Ain Issa and for not serving in the city of Tabqa, west of Raqqa. Military sources within the SDF said that the detainees are members of the “Qasd”, they are from the Arab component.
