A Turkish security source confirmed that “the Syrian government’s accusations about Ankara’s water cut off at Alouk station, which meets the needs of the Syrian province of Hasaka, are false.”

The source said: “Damascus is trying to mislead international public opinion by hiding the facts,” and that the water needs of the Hasakah region are being met by 12 of the 30 wells at the Alouk water station.

He added that “the Syrian government cut electricity 10 times for a period of 27 hours last November, and twice for 30 hours in the first week of this December, due to the maintenance of the power plant that feeds said water station.”

He continued: “Only 29% of the electricity needed for the cities of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain and their countryside is provided in the vicinity of the Turkish operations of the ‘source of peace’ on an irregular basis.

He stressed that “the power outage, effective December 6, has intentionally put the lives of the people of Tal Abyad, Ras al-Ain and Hasakah at risk.”

In two letters, the Syrian Foreign Ministry addressed to the Security Council and the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, called for an immediate intervention to force Turkey to restart the Alouk water station and address its “inhumane practices aimed at to restrict the civilian population and deprive it of its means of subsistence and life. “
