After Takahiro Shirachi committed the murders of 8 women and men in 2017 and dismembered their bodies and hid them at his home in Zama, Kanagawa region, the court ruling in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday sentenced him to death.
The judge called this series of crimes committed by what became known as the “Twitter killer” against his victims, between the ages of 15 and 26, as “extremely terrible in the history of crime.”
The trial was overshadowed by disagreements over the possibility of Shirachi killing his victims with his consent, after they posted suicidal content posts on social media, especially Twitter. It is an idea on which his lawyers built their defense strategy to reduce the penalties for him, since, in their opinion, he was murdered at the implicit request of the victims themselves by email. However, the autopsy showed that they resisted while being strangled and did not wish to die. Furthermore, psychiatric examinations over a period of 5 months revealed that Shirachi is in full mental capacity, which allowed the court to convict and sentence him to death, as it was found that he was fully responsible for these crimes. Cherashi has previously stated that he will not appeal the sentence if he is punished with the death penalty.
Mysterious information about the “Twitter killer’s” assault on his female victims circulated, sexually inviting them to his home. Investigations indicate that Shirahi carried out his 9 crimes between August and October 2017.
The father of one of his victims said: “I will not forgive him even if he dies,” according to Indian television “NDTV”.
