Beirut / Naim Berjawi / Anatolia –

On Monday, the Public Ministry announced in the Beirut port explosion that it would withdraw from processing the file. For a relationship with an accused former minister.

The official Lebanese news agency reported that “the prosecutor, Judge Ghassan Oweidat, announced his resignation to continue investigating the file of the port explosion, in his capacity as judicial prosecutor in the case due to the relationship between him and the former minister, Representative Ghazi Zaiter “.

And last Thursday, the judicial investigator of the case, Judge Fadi Sawan, accused of “negligence and causing the death of innocent people”, the interim prime minister, Hassan Diab, and 3 former ministers, including Zuaiter.

The explosion in the port, which occurred on August 4, caused the death of some 200 people and more than 6,000 injured, in addition to massive material damage in residential buildings and commercial establishments.

Oweidat will succeed the public lawyer, Judge Ghassan El-Khoury, “who will continue the investigation of the matter related to the Public Ministry,” according to the same source.

In a related context, the head of the interim government, Hassan Diab, insisted on not submitting to the questioning that was scheduled for today, according to a source close to him who spoke to Anadolu Agency.

After the charges were brought against him, Diab said that he is “a man of institutions, he respects the law and complies with the constitution that he (the judicial investigator) violated and bypassed the parliament.”

By this, Diab means that the Lebanese constitution stipulates in Article 70 that the indictment against the Prime Minister and members of the government will be issued by Parliament after the approval of the majority of its members, and not by the judiciary.

As Diab did not respond today, the private television channel “LBC” said it had a session scheduled to listen to him next Friday morning.

A source close to the General Secretariat of the Lebanese Parliament said in a statement to Anadolu Agency that the House of Representatives asked the forensic investigator in the case of the port explosion for the documents necessary to pass the file.

This step, if completed, means transferring the file to the House of Representatives, not the judiciary, in preparation for forwarding it to the Supreme Council for the trial of presidents and ministers.

A few days ago, Lebanese officials, including the Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Abd al-Latif Derian, refused to bring these charges against Diab and considered them a political target of the prime minister’s office and a violation of the constitution and the law on the prosecution of presidents and ministers.
