The Permanent Military Court handed down a three-year prison sentence for activist Kinda Al-Khatib, after the charges against her, namely “dealing with Israel”, were proven.
Al-Khatib appeared before the Permanent Military Tribunal, headed by Brigadier General Munir Shehadeh, on Monday. The military court questioned her, in the presence of her lawyer, Jocelyn Al-Rae, about the charge against her, which is “dealing with spies and agents of Israel and entering the enemy’s country.”
Al-Khatib clarified in her testimony that the only thing she did was that a journalist who worked for Israeli Channel 11 contacted her through Twitter called Roy Qaisi, and she did not know his identity, and when he found out that he was Israeli, he reported to the security forces on the matter.
Regarding the reason why he did not place a block on this person when he learned that he is an “Israeli”, he considered that his phone was under security surveillance, and there is nothing suspicious about it, especially since all his accounts were open . He absolutely denied entering Israel, meeting any Israelis, or providing him with security information.
At the end of the interrogation, the deputy government commissioner in the Military Court, Judge Claude Ghanem, presented a review in which he repeated the articles of the indictment and requested that al-Khatib be guilty of what is attributed to him. She concluded by asking to be declared innocent of all the charges against her, according to the National News Agency, but the sentence was handed down for three years.
