“Tower of the Skulls” … a terrifying new discovery of “sacrificed” people

In an incident that revealed a bloody history, archaeologists discovered 119 human skulls, stacked together and forming a tower-like structure, belonging to the Aztec civilization in Mexico.

The discovery of the new “tower of skulls” comes after scientists had previously discovered about 500 skulls at the same site, according to Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History.

Scientists found the tower in a remote area near Mexico City, and it represents a “terrifying” custom practiced by Aztec leaders, which is to collect the skulls of people who are sacrificed in a show so that they remain in memory.

According to scientists, the skulls date from between 1486 and 1502, and were found in what was known as the city of Tenochtitlan.

The skulls of the sacrificed people were found 3.2 meters underground, some of them women and children.

The Aztecs considered the huge pile of skulls “a sign of the strength and prestige of a pre-Hispanic city.”

The Spanish invaders destroyed Tenochtitlán and deposited its ruins after they occupied the city in 1519.

It is noteworthy that the excavation process in this archaeological zone of Mexico, which began in 2015, revealed valuable secrets about the historic Aztec civilization.
