The US Food and Drug Administration advisory committee approved Pfizer’s Corona vaccine on Friday by 17 votes to four, plus one person abstaining.
The US network “CNBC” welcomed one of the members of the committee who voted no, Archana Chatterjee, who is the dean of the Chicago School of Medicine, where she explained her reasons to the US network.
Chatterjee said during the meeting, which aired Friday, that his vote is not because he does not answer the question of whether the vaccine is suitable for those under 18.
The doctor explained that the amount of data that the committee had on the youngest participants was very small and was not enough to make a decision on these participants, adding that she can wait for more data to be able to administer the vaccine to those under 18 years of age .
The doctor added: “I want to make it completely clear that I fully support allowing the emergency use of the Corona virus vaccine produced by Pfizer / Biontech, for use in adults over 18 years of age, but I said because there was no opportunity to respond to this question”.
Chatterjee told the presenter that “of course” she would receive a Pfizer vaccine, adding that she would be the first in line to receive the vaccine.
Chatterjee said her message to people who fear getting vaccinated is that it’s safe and effective. Data from Pfizer showed that its vaccine was 95 percent effective with no serious side effects.
The United States, the country most affected by the epidemic in the world, currently registers record numbers of infections, with about 235,000 new cases in 24 hours on Friday, a figure that had not been registered a day before.
The new Corona virus caused the death of one million 582 thousand 721 people in the world, with about seventy million confirmed infections, according to a toll prepared by Agence France-Presse.
