Igor Sobotin wrote an article with the title “Nizavismaya Gazeta”Iran promised Syria to return the Golan Heights.. The article reads: “The visit of the new Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad to Iran, his first trip abroad in this situation, demonstrated the foreign policy priorities of Damascus.
In Tehran, the Syrian Foreign Minister received a promise that the Syrian government would continue to receive the necessary assistance until such time as all territories returned to its control, including the Golan Heights, which are occupied by Israel.
Rouhani’s words about the Golan could only worry Israelis. Especially since this Syrian region has become, in recent months, a source of problems for the Jewish state. The problem here is not limited to Iran. On December 9, Israeli law enforcement agencies were forced to use force to disperse protests in the Golan. In the evening, Druze community leaders called on residents of Majdal Shams, Baqatha and Masada villages to demonstrate against Israeli authorities’ plans to install wind generation towers in the area. The sheikhs said in a statement that the installation of the wind turbines “would confiscate the Druze lands and deprive them of their source of livelihood.”
In this regard, the expert of the Council of International Affairs of Russia, Kirill Simionov, indicated that Al-Miqdad’s visit to Iran demonstrated who, in fact, is the most important ally of the official Damascus. Furthermore, the Syrian leadership has shown that it plans to remain an integral component of the Iranian “axis of resistance” in the future. Simonov expressed to “Nezavisimaya Gazeta” his confidence in that, saying: “It is difficult to expect changes in this approach, nor is it likely that Iran itself will reconsider its relations with the Syrian Arab Republic.” According to Semenov, Iran would prefer, as in the past, “to maintain its military presence in Syria, including on the Israeli border.”
