Beirut Bar Association deplores attacks on judicial investigator Fadi Sawan

The Beirut Bar Association issued a statement in light of developments in the port bombing case, which read:
The Beirut Bar Association held its regular meeting on Friday, November 12, 2020 and, after discussing the latest developments in the case of the attack on the port, issued the following statement:

First – The Beirut Bar Association supports the content of the statement issued by His Excellency the President of the Bar Association, Dr. Melhem Khalaf, yesterday, dated 12/11/2020, which comes in his realistic, legal and national positions , and any attack on his person is a target for the Bar Association with all its members.

Second – The Beirut Bar Association keeps abreast of the court proceedings dictated by the judicial investigator, Judge Fadi Sawan, and commends the bold steps he took in the decision to question some officials, in order to reach indeed, abandoning all sectarian, political, and security reserves, provided they are pursued with the same impulse. In it the good of integral justice; Justice is for all people, and for all people alike, especially justice for thousands of citizens in the greatest crime that shook the nation. The judicial investigator has tested a reasonable law, jurisprudence and jurisprudence by listening to whoever he pleases without impeding constitutional, legal or political immunity.

Third – The Beirut Bar Association deplores the attacks to which the judicial investigator has been subjected since yesterday, since what he has done is one of the axes of his functions as judge in charge of justice for thousands of people, and he cannot be considered in no way a violation of the Constitution, but rather a constructive pillar on which to build a promising start. Towards the independence of the judiciary, the cornerstone of nation building; What the Union Council asks for the presence of the judicial investigator is more subpoenas to include all those involved in politics, security and other parties that seem involved.

Fourth: The Beirut Bar Association invites colleagues, lawyers and the general public to erect an impenetrable barrier against those who consider themselves above prosecution, law and justice, and the Bar Association calls on lawyers and citizens who join hands, solidarity and community solidarity to support the truth against falsehood, and the sun shines again.
