Former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir
Michal Diamant, granddaughter of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, confirmed that his strategy to deal with the outbreak of the first Palestinian intifada was based solely on Palestinian dialogue.
In an interview with the Israeli newspaper “Macor Rishon”, Diamant revealed that among Shamir’s conditions for peace negotiations with the Palestinian side at the Madrid Conference held in October 1991 after the first Palestinian intifada, the phrase of the The Palestinian delegation did not appear there, adding: “In fact, the Palestinians only came as part of the Jordanian delegation.”

He explained that the most important event in Shamir was the outbreak of the first intifada in 1987.
The following year, elections were held for the Twelfth Knesset, in which the Likud party won. Although he could have formed a right-wing government, Shamir chose to head another unity government.
Shamir served as Prime Minister of the Israeli government from 1983 to 1984 and from 1986 to 1992.
