The director of the “Higher National Institute of Music” in Lebanon, Bassam Saba, died on Friday, at the age of 62, in a hospital in Beirut, as a result of being infected with the new Corona virus, according to officials.

The Minister of Culture of the interim government, Abbas Mortada, expressed his regret at the departure of “musician Bassam Saba”, noting that he had died “after a bitter struggle with the disease due to his contagion with the coronavirus.”

The Minister of Culture considered that Saba was “a creative man who linked East and West to his music and artistic works, and was distinguished by his training in the sciences of music, which he took with him in all the artistic events that have traveled the world “.

News websites reported that he had suffered complications from the virus for “weeks” at the American University Medical Center in Beirut, where he died.
