An Indian teacher won the International Teachers Award for the year 2020, for his work in educating girls, most of them from poor tribal communities, at a village school in the west of the country, but he also announced a surprise from Saadia to the other teachers who accompanied him to the final list of the contest.

And Indian professor Ranjit Desali threw a surprise as soon as the $ 1 million prize was announced. That he will share half with the other nine rivals who made the final list, giving each of them $ 55,000, according to “Sky News.”

Organizers of the award said Desali was honored for his contribution to “changing life chances” for girls at Zila Parishad Primary School in Paritiwadi, Maharashtra state.

The award was announced by actor and writer Stephen Fry, during a virtual ceremony broadcast from the “Museum of Natural History” in the British capital, London, and Desali heard the announcement of the award from his home in India, surrounded by his family.

According to the organizers, Master Desali began his career in 2009 at the school, which was located in a destroyed building next to a cattle barn. School attendance in this area was low, along with the widespread phenomenon of adolescent marriage.

The school curriculum was not in the “Kenada” language that the girls spoke, so Desali moved to the village to learn the language and translate textbooks for the girls to understand.

It also provided digital education tools and designed a special program for each student, and its smart system is currently being used throughout India.

Organizers say that the student’s attendance rate has reached 100%, while one of the girls in the village graduated from university.
