Al-Arabiya reported, in an investigation titled “The” Mysterious “Death of an Officer in Lebanon … Has It Something to Do with the Port of Beirut?” Journalist Johnny Fakhry stated that “in a security incident notable for its timing four months after the Beirut port explosion on 4 August, Colonel A retired customs official, Munir Abu Rajeli, was found to have a body inside his home in Qartaba, Jbeil district (about 37 kilometers from the capital Beirut) in Mount Lebanon Governorate, hit on the head with a sharp object.

According to the investigation, “investigations continue to find out the causes of the crime, which suggests that some information was motivated by the robbery, because the victim’s house is neutral in an isolated area on the outskirts of the town of Qartaba, and he was inspecting the maintenance work carried out by the workers, and when he arrived late he decided to spend the night at home and return in the morning. ” To Beirut, and when his wife tried to call him more than once to see how he was doing, she got no answer, then followed him to the house in the mountain and found him dead inside the house.

Security sources only said: “Colonel Abu Rajeli was killed with a sharp object to the head while sleeping in his bed, and there are no signs of dislocation and breakage of the main door of the house.”

According to information obtained from more than one person in the city of Qartaba: “Retired Colonel Munir Abu Rajeli held more than one position in the Customs Directorate, was a member of the Supreme Council of Customs, transferred positions between the airport and the port of Beirut and supervised the border crossings, and finally assumed the direction of the department of fight against smuggling in Customs before being sent to retirement almost two years ago ”.

They ruled out that “Colonel Abu Rajeli was killed as a motive for robbery, because someone who steals valuables such as jewelery, weapons, electrical machines, etc. is being sought … which did not happen in Colonel Abu Rajeli’s house.”

What is probable “hypothesis” is that the cause of his “mysterious” death is related to the investigations of the explosion of the port of Beirut, that the judicial investigator, Judge Fadi Sawan, is investigating all those who have assumed responsibility in the port of Beirut since the arrival of the Rhosus ship loaded with “ammonium nitrate” in 2012, whether he was a minister OR a port administration officer or official.

From here, informed sources did not exclude: “Colonel Abu Rajaili had been summoned to the investigation some time ago, and provided important information about the” ship of death “that may have helped to uncover the clues to the crime of the port explosion. , for which he was physically liquidated.

And he considered that “the state can quickly reveal the circumstances of the crime, especially since there are surveillance cameras installed in the town of Qartaba in more than one point.”

The deceased is 58 years old, father of four, who retired from customs nearly two years ago.

In addition, information obtained from people in the town of Qartaba indicated that the assassinated was friends with Colonel Joseph Skaf, who died in 2017 under mysterious circumstances. Two contradictory reports were received from two forensic doctors, one of whom indicated that the death is natural, and the second confirmed that there are those who are standing. Behind the colonel’s murder, especially after bruising his head.

Days after the Beirut port explosion, Colonel Joseph Skaff’s son posted on his Facebook account: “In March 2017, a crime was committed against retired Customs Colonel Joseph Skaf, who did not fall as claimed. Colonel was brutally attacked and murdered in front of his house. ” He added that “the case has not been closed and the family has been waiting 3 years for a serious and transparent investigation to discover the circumstances of the crime.”

Colonel Joseph Skaff had previously written a letter in February 2014 to the “Smuggling Inspection and Search Service” of the Ministry of Finance, demanding the removal of the ship Rhosus, loaded with 2,750 tons of “ammonium nitrate” on board. , outside Pier 11 in the port of Beirut, and demanded that he be placed under supervision. , That is, your load. Because they pose a threat to public safety.
